Beauty in colours – Arabesque

Monica Cirstea

Arabesque
Today I shall present you the evolution for one of my latest piece. Inspired by the traditional Persian painting, this drawing is made using coloured pencils, gel pens and ballpoint pens. Due to the intricate details of this piece, I estimate that I’ve spent around 10 hours on it. I didn’t work on this drawing constantly and – maybe you’ll find this aspect a bit strange – I found the inspiration to create this design during the Romanian class and also the initial sketch was made then… Sketching this kind of drawing in pencil and then in ballpoint pen is no mean feat, but, when adding colours, everything becomes even more attractive. The finest details can come at last, provided that they match with the previously chosen colours and shapes.
Using my own design ideas for this A4-size drawing, I went for dazzling colours and intricate details. It also has some glittery portions, which are not quite visible in the photographs.
I wanted this to be a metaphor of the autumnal state of mind – nothing melancholic, no neutral shades, like the ones we are used to associate autumn with. Autumn is my favourite season and definitely the one closest to soul. I portrayed it as an explosion of turquoise, blue, violet – blended with the warm orange and yellow shades. Like falling leaves joining with our thoughts and feeling in the perfect harmony.
What does it suggest to you? Please let me know what you think about it.
Enjoy the evolution below!
